How Many Types of Magnets Are There?

Before mentioning the types of magnets, what is a magnet? Let’s answer the question.

Magnet; in the simplest form are objects that produce magnetic fields. The first thing that comes to mind when a magnet is mentioned is the ability to attract metals. However, not every metal can be attracted by the magnet.

Magnet Types

As a result of a simple research on the internet, you will see dozens of magnets as well as a large number of magnet manufacturers. Which magnet type can be the most suitable choice for you? Which magnet manufacturers can be the right choice to get service from? In order to answer these questions, you need to have an idea about the types of magnets.

Magnet types can be grouped under 3 main headings;

  1. Electromagnets,
  2. Temporary magnets
  3. Permanent magnets.

As permanent magnets, they are also differentiated within themselves.

The electromagnet; they are magnet objects only when electric current passes through it. The magnetization intensity can easily be changed by manipulating the electric current through the object.

Temporary Magnet; they are magnet objects as long as they are in the magnetic field.

Permanent Magnet; they are always objects with magnetic field properties. Permanent magnets can be grouped in four ways.

  • Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB); this type of permanent magnet, which consists of rare earth magnetic object, it has very high power.
  • Samarium Cobalt (SmCo); the most important feature is the high resistance to oxidation and temperature. Just like Neodymium Iron Boron has high power.
  • Ceramic or Ferrite; it contains sintered iron oxide and strontium carbonate or barium. They are much cheaper than other magnets. Easily produced by pressing or sintering

Which Type Magnet Should I Choose?

The most important question in the selection of magnets; is what it will be used for. The field of application is the main criterion for the selection of magnets. If you are uncertain about which type of magnet you need to choose, you can get in touch with the magnet manufacturers to get advice.

Here we want to point out that magnet manufacturers do not produce all kinds of magnets. If you want to buy magnets for the field, it is much more healthy to consult with magnet manufacturers who are experts in that field. Otherwise, you may get incomplete or incorrect information. And you can experience serious losses in both money and time.
